Basic Questions
Short drama apps share one simple model. You watch vertical episodes that are very short. You get the first few for free. After that, episodes cost coins or a pass. Most confusion comes from that split. The five answers below are a good place to start.
What counts as a short drama app?
It is an app that streams vertical video built for phones. Each series splits into many tiny episodes. Billionaires, revenge and identity reveals are popular plot ingredients. Werewolf romances are likewise popular. The www.reelshorts.org/where-to-watch/the-dominant-heir-s-triumphant-return-dubbed leaders are ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama. China is where the format started, as duanju.
How long does each episode run?
Most come in at one to two minutes. Western productions often go for runtimes of 60 to 100 seconds. A series usually includes 20 to 100 episodes. Married at First Sight has 90 in ReelShort’s listing. Double Life, a ReelShort hit, lists 60. A full series can rival a movie in length.
Why do episodes stop right at cliffhangers?
Free episodes usually end there. ReelShort states that the first 5 to 15 are usually free. Industry coverage gives a figure of 8 to 10. The paywall tends to land at peak suspense. The business model is that timing. Viewers also rank it among their top complaints.
Who owns ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?
ReelShort is a Crazy Maple Studio title, and the studio is in Sunnyvale, California. China’s COL Group stands behind that studio. DramaBox is run by StoryMatrix of Singapore, itself part of Beijing Dianzhong Technology. Behind My Drama is Holywater, set up in Kyiv in 2020. Fox Entertainment acquired an equity stake in October 2025. ReelShort launched in 2022, DramaBox in 2023.
Can I watch in a web browser or on TV?
Yes, with limits. ReelShort’s website supports Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok and email logins. Your viewing progress syncs with the app. You can get free unlocks only in the app. My Drama runs a dedicated Apple TV app. We did not find a verified ReelShort TV app.
Costs
The most common questions are about money. The prices here are from the US App Store as of September 2026. They change by country, platform and promotion. Always start by checking the pricing screen. Treat each number as approximate. Below is what listings show.
Is ReelShort free?
Partly, and the free part is real. What people searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” want is the catch. The download is free. Opening episodes cost nothing. For later ones, you need coins or a VIP pass. Watching ads and checking in earns free coins.
How do the coins work?
Coins are the in-app currency that unlocks episodes. ReelShort’s blog puts an episode at about 60 coins. The smallest pack costs roughly $4.99 for 500 coins. Bonus coins come with bigger packs. A 7-day check-in streak brings 100+ coins. One rewarded ad unlocks two episodes.
Do coins ever expire?
It comes down to the app. ReelShort says free reward coins usually expire. Coins you paid for do not. Things work differently at My Drama. Under its terms, coins are forfeited after 12 months of inactivity. Stay active and spend reward coins first.
What is the price of a weekly pass?
The typical price in the US is about $19.99 a week. It is listed by ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. A few apps show cheaper plans. ShortMax’s listing shows $9.99, while GoodShort starts around $5.99. Every one of these passes renews automatically. Forgetting it for four weeks costs four times as much.
Are there any monthly or yearly plans?
They exist on some apps. A yearly plan appears on ReelShort’s blog at roughly $199.99. Different pages give different monthly prices. So we treat that figure as unconfirmed. DramaWave lists a monthly price of about $36.99. In the US, ShortMax lists weekly passes only.
Is it possible to watch without paying?
Yes, if you are patient. Each series’ free opening episodes are the place to start. Open up more by watching rewarded ads. Keep up a daily check-in streak. ReelShort also has official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels. Combining all four goes furthest.
Managing and Cancelling Subscriptions
Weekly passes do not stop renewing until you stop them. Plenty of people are surprised by that. Once you know where, cancelling is quick. Where to cancel depends on how you paid. Purchases made in a store are cancelled by that store. Companies deal with website purchases.
Does removing the app cancel my subscription?
No, and plenty of people make this mistake. Apple states that removing an app does not end its subscription. The same goes for uninstalling, says Google. My Drama’s terms include the same warning. The pass does not stop renewing until you cancel. Cancel first, and then delete.
How do I cancel on iPhone?
Begin by opening the Settings app. At the top, tap your name. Then choose Subscriptions. Tap the short drama app. Tap Cancel and then confirm it. To be on the safe side, act a day before renewal.
How do I cancel a subscription on Android?
First, open the Google Play Store app. Next, go to your Subscriptions list. Pick the short drama app there. Tap Cancel and follow the steps shown. Uninstalling, remember, cancels nothing. Check the list again to confirm the change.
Can I cancel from inside the app?
Sometimes, but the store path is the safer bet. An in-app option under About Subscription is described in ShortMax’s terms. For store buyers, they point to App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google control only what they billed. Buyers on the website should contact the company. Save a screenshot of every cancellation.
Why was I charged after a free trial?
The wording of trials can confuse. ShortMax’s developer acknowledges that its “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels confused people. Its terms say passes renew 24 hours before expiry. You pay the same price for the renewal. Cancel one day before any trial runs out. After that, confirm the store shows it cancelled.
Refund Questions
How refunds work depends on who took your money. Play charges are handled by Google. App Store charges are handled by Apple. The companies deal with their own website charges. None of these routes guarantees a refund. This table lays out every path.
| Where the payment was made | How you cancel | Where to seek a refund | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone (App Store) | Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel | The Report a Problem page from Apple | Deleting the app won’t cancel |
| Android (Google Play) | Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel | Google within 48 hours, then the developer | Uninstalling won’t cancel |
| Website | The app company’s account page or support | The app company only | Often non-refundable, as My Drama’s terms state |
How can I get an Apple refund?
Begin on Apple’s Report a Problem page. Sign in with the Apple ID that paid. Choose the charge, then explain briefly. Apple usually answers within 24 to 48 hours. The decision is Apple’s, not the app developer’s. Remember to cancel the pass too, or it will renew.
How do Google Play refunds work?
Timing is the biggest factor here. Within 48 hours of buying, Google says you may get a refund. Make the request directly through Google Play. Contact the developer once that window has passed. ReelShort users are directed to Profile, then Feedback. Move fast when a renewal catches you by surprise.
What about buying on the website?
The app company handles those. Apple and Google can’t step in there. My Drama’s terms label web purchases non-refundable except where law requires. EU and UK users get a 14-day withdrawal right under its terms. Each other company sets its own rules. Before you pay online, check the terms.
Can I refund unused coins?
Usually not, and that is in the terms. Coin purchases are final, according to My Drama’s terms. ShortMax refuses refunds, unless its own fault makes a product unusable. Requests through the store may help with accidental buys. Stick to the smallest pack until a series grabs you. Mistakes then cost less.
Safety and Look-Alike Apps

Here, name confusion is everywhere. Misspelled names lead to minor unrelated apps. Some sites are copies of big brands. A handful of downloads are unsafe. Sticking to real names protects your money. The answers below sort real from fake.
Is there an app called Real Short?
No, not that we were able to find. Real Short is a misspelled version of ReelShort. Other misspellings include “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and likely “shot shorts”. The real name is one word. The seller listed on the App Store is New Leaf Publishing. Check that before you download.
What are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV, exactly?
These are small, unrelated apps. Found via “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, ReelBox has 50K+ Android installs. It is not linked to ReelShort or DramaBox. Often typed “daily short”, DailyShort has 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV is an Android TV app that has 10K+ installs. Most searchers likely mean GoodShort.
Is ShortTV the same as ShortMax?
Very likely, though not confirmed. ShortMax’s legal entity is SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong. Visitors to its website are redirected to ShortTV’s site. Both apps launched in September 2023. No official rename announcement turned up. A search for “short tv” or “short max” also brings up unrelated apps.
Can mod APKs and coin generators be trusted?
No, and none of them are official. Mod APKs are altered copies of apps that come from outside official stores. One DramaBox look-alike calls its download an unofficial modified version. Coin generators are not official either. You cannot confirm what they do. Stick to official stores and websites.
Why does ReelShort have a low rating on Trustpilot?
ReelShort’s Trustpilot page displays 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. Charges after cancelling are a recurring complaint. Weekly auto-renewals come up often. Other reviewers mention coin prices and denied refunds. What any review site reflects is the people who chose to post. Treat it as a list of things to check, not a verdict.
